"RFUS" was originally performed at Viktor Von Vulgar, Part II - December 8th, 2017. The band's manager, Colon, stormed the stage midway through their set and ranted about Viktor's extreme use of profanity. In response, the band jammed this song for the first time live onstage. It garnered such a positive response from the audience that they decided to keep the song for the future, and now "Radio-Friendly Unit-Shifter" is the band's bestselling single.
Many speculate that the title was knowingly stolen from the band Nirvana, who released a song of the same name in 1994. Whether this move was intentional, disrespectful, or in homage to Nirvana remains a debate among fans.
There are vast differences between the two songs; in Nirvana's case, their song was decidedly un-commercial and the title therefore ironic. VVV, meanwhile, fully leans into a cliche pop groove and utilizes a repetitive, infectious chorus. The song as a whole, then, becomes a slightly comedic take on the nature of modern pop songs.
