This is a screen-capture video, made from a TuneLing for "Middle Of The Morning", by Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, from their new album "Weathervanes".
Notes - this song features a constant figure throughout: in the verses (and other sections), the D chord shape (really an E chord, due to the capo) is sustained throughout, but it is ornamented by the use of the Dsus4 (Esus4) shape in the last beat-and-a-half of each bar. You simply add (and remove) the pinky finger to the highest string to do it.
The video illustrates this in the intro, and in the coda, but it's appropriate to use throughout the song, as much or as little as you like.
The important thing is to use the Dsus4 shape in a way that is rhythmically appropriate. So use your ears, listen the recording, and when it feels right to use the Dsus4 shape, do it!
