Description
"In a similar fashion to Buena Vista Social Club, the Malecon Social Club is a band created by a European entrepreneur wowed by the stunning musical virtuosity he heard on a trip to Cuba. Bob Petrovitch, a Paris-based Serbian, was so enthralled by a trio called Los Astros that he offered his services as agent, producer, and impresario. Los Astros were a group of long-standing in Havana, but Petrovitch added to their number with another of his discoveries, a blind street guitarist, and a fifth player recommended to him by the trio. Now complete, the Malecon Social Club recorded this, their first album, in Havana, before traveling to Paris for a series of concerts. The mega-success of the Buena Vista Social Club has opened up a market for traditional Cuban music that is far bigger than for most types of world music, and one which the Malecon Social Club are poised to enter with an album of their own compositions alongside tracks by Maria Teresa Vera, Pablo Milanes and Guillermo Portabales." --Harmonia Mundi
