Lee Morgan was an American jazz trumpeter and composer, renowned as one of the key figures in the hard bop style. Born on July 10, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he tragically passed away on February 19, 1972, in New York City.

Morgan gained prominence at the age of 18 when he joined Dizzy Gillespie's big band. Later, he became a vital member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, where he honed his skills as a soloist and composer. His 1964 album The Sidewinder achieved crossover success, appearing on pop and R&B charts, and helped popularize jazz among wider audiences.

Throughout his career, Morgan recorded prolifically, releasing 25 albums as a leader under the Blue Note label. His music is characterized by its energetic performances and memorable melodies, with notable contributions to albums like Moanin' by the Jazz Messengers.
