Natalie Ai' Kamauu at Pakele Lounge for Pakele Live celebrating her 2nd CD Release, "I" (pronounced ee.
Biography...................
One of Hawaii's best kept secrets, Natalie Ai Kamau'u, proves she is no stranger to Hawaiian music, again. Natalie started turning heads when she was just a teenager, singing alongside her father for Halau Hula Olana. In 1990, Natalie garnered the coveted title Miss Aloha Hula under her parents, Kumu Hula Howard and Olana Ais teaching and guidance. Natalie recorded a solo cassette release in the 1990's. She continued to experiment with different venues; even different genre.
Natalie along with her husband Iolani became part of a group called "Sunland" along with Chad Guerrero and Claudia Vazquez. It was kind of a mixture of Euro-techno and Hawaiian pop; put together by Henry & Peter Bergstrom - Swedish-born writer/producers. They would have several hits from the "Eruption" CD - "We Are Only Human" and "Juliet".
With cultural and musical differences and questions about financing, Natalie and 'Iolani broke from the group to musically make their own way again.
Hula was always a part of Natalie; but it wasn't long before Natalie began shining solo in the spotlight again. Many among the hula community and Hawaiian music fans proclaimed, "Finally!" when Natalie Ai Kamauu's solo release "'E," arrived. It would win her the title of 2006 Female Vocalist of the Year at the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards.
With the release of her second recording, `I, her fans find a different faceting of her love for music and hula with her signature sweet voice, strong spirit and playful heart. A true musical gem, with husband, Iolani, on vocals and instrumentation, you will fall in love with all that is Hawaii as her voice brings clarity and color to Hawaiian music today.
At the very first note, Natalie will command your attention, just as she always has.
