Description
The Beatles recorded two versions of "Glad All Over" for BBC Radio, with George Harrison taking lead vocals, in tribute to his favorite rock n roll artist. The song was originally written and recorded by Carl Perkins, at Sun Records in Memphis Tennessee. Perkins released the song as a single on 6 January 1958, backed with "Lend Me Your Comb".
The Beatles first recorded the song on 16 July 1963, for the 10th edition of the Pop Go The Beatles show. It was performed at the BBC Paris Studio, London, and first broadcast on 20 August. This version was later released on the Live At The BBC collection.
The second recording was just a few days later, on 30 July. The Beatles recorded six tracks for the Saturday Club programme at London's Playhouse Theatre, which were first transmitted on 24 August. This version of "Glad All Over" is now available on Beatles Live at the BBC Vol. 2.
