There is some amount of lore surrounding this recording of George Jones. Some amount of controversy you may find as well. Originally recorded for Les Blanc's "A Poem Is a Naked Person" in the early 70s.
We find a somber and serious George Jones. Sat with his guitar, and a Bud Heavy, you wouldn't call it anything short of normal for the godfather of country music. Now the reason this video in particular has gained so much popularity over the years, is because George Jones is incredible. Plain and simple. But near the 55 second mark in this remarkable recording, George Jones intimate face, and acoustic sound, are replaced with a Muralist, in a swimming pool, catching scorpions. That man would then go on to fill your screen for the remainder of the video. For some, that may be of no issue, but for many, this has struck a cord. Knowing that somewhere in the depths of the world there is a full, un altered version of this beautiful, absolutely beautiful rendition of George's famous 'Take Me'. Yet, all we have had since the day of the release of Les Blancs motion picture, is what we have all seen before, a man with a jar of scorpions. I took it upon myself to spend the evening doing Mr. Jones more justice. I have compiled the VERY limited amount of live performances of "Take Me" and did my very best to overlay them onto the original recording. For all of those that couldn't have cared less for scorpions. Ultimately, we must thank Les Blanc, as without his eccentric ways we would have never been turned on to an acoustic version of this remarkable song. But at the end of the day, I hope to have finally allowed sleep for the country music fans who have searched far and wide for the unedited version of this recording. Maybe one day we will be gifted, but until then, I pray my very limited and minimal editing skills have helped hold us over. Tonight, we have George Jones with his acoustic performance of "Take Me", 1973. Enjoy.
