On Aug 6, 1945, the United States flew Enola Gay which dropped the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima Japan. This attack was hoped to end the war. Tragically, 150,000 Japanese citizens perished that day, and more would die in the after effects. Three short days later, a second larger bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.

OMD wrote Enola Gay, in 1985, 40 years later. The song was propelled to the top ten singles and sold over 5 million copies. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark went on to have several other hits and are still touring today.

Thankfully, there has not been an atomic or nuclear weapon used since those two bombs were detonated over Japan. May cool heads previal as we enter a dangerous period in world politics.
