This song had a huge influence on me as a songwriter. Released in 1965, it received little praise or recognition, despite Paul Simon’s efforts to introduce Jackson C. Frank to the world. Likely shaped by the trauma of his childhood, Frank spent much of his life in obscurity, struggling with mental illness and periods of homelessness. He was a beautiful songwriter.
